History
The Book House officially was founded in 1979, but many old school Mabletonians place the opening date in 1977. The store was first opened by the bookworm wife of a career military man in a location next to Krystle's on what was then Bankhead Highway. Gloria Hall, a Mableton native, purchased the store soon after and moved the store into a larger facility on Puckett Drive and successfully oversaw the Book House for ten years. When Gloria decided it was time to retire, she passed the reigns to Sylvia Thurston and her mother, Doris Mellon, who continued to grow the business for the next fifteen years. Following the passing of Sylvia, the Book House was purchased by Pam Simmons in the fall of 2003, who moved the store to Veterans Memorial.
The Book House was recently purchased by area native, avid reader, and wife of a Navy veteran Tracie Harris. The store has now moved to 5450 Old Floyd Road in Mableton.
